My first term in Olympia has been spent fighting taxes and out-of-control spending. It is disrespectful for government to spend more than it takes in and burden families with higher taxes. Many of you have been laid off or had hours and pay reduced. We must strengthen our economy and get you back to work. You can't raise taxes on small business and expect to create jobs! I pledged to you that I would not support any new taxes or fees... and my voting record has shown that I have done that. Our state constitution says that it is our "paramount duty" to fund education. We must do so predictably and fairly. Passing the buck to local teachers and districts through unfunded mandates is unacceptable. Let us fund education first and take the politics out of our children's education. Much is needed to get spending under control and our economy moving again.
